Simple Steps To Implement A Free Website Template Into ArticleMs Skin

I’m going to explain how to integrate a free website templates into an articlems skins.
You can follow these simple steps:

1) Login to you admin articlems panel.
2) Goto TEMPLATES
3) » Manage Skins
4) » Create New Skin
5) Create Skin:
Create new skin named NEW-SKIN-NAME based on DEFAULT
6) Click CREATE button
7) Go back to TEMPLATES
Skin: select the new skin just created and push the SELECT button.
9) Goto » Edit Stylesheet
10) Delete all the code inside
11) Copy the code from the .css file of your free template and Paste it into the Stylesheet . Save it.
12) Goto TEMPLATE
13) – Main. Copy Paste the code you find there in a notepad. Then delete all from the file.
14) Copy the code from you free template page included between the tag (without the tag) and paste it into the MAIN page. Now you must change the contents with the articlems code.
- $this->output will show the contents in the main area. So you must add it in the large column where you want display all the contents.
- Then add all the code related to the blocks you want use in the sidebar/s ( if you have 2 sidebar you can choose which block display in the right or in the left )
$Blocks->mainmenu
$Blocks->categorytree
$Blocks->pagetree
$Blocks->sponsors
etc etc.
Then SAVE.
15) Goto TEMPLATE
16) – HOMEPAGE
Change the text inside and SAVE

Now GOTO Settings –> Select the new skin and click UPDATE
Vist now the site ( If all is ok ) enjoy your new template.

Of course there are another way to integrate a free template into articlems skin and it’ll be more featured.

How To Upgrade ArticleMs 1.3 Template To ArticleMs 2.0

Do you want upgrade your articlems 1.3 template to the new articlems 2.0 template? If you want to test it before upgrading all things i suggest you to create another folder and upload there the new articlems 2.0 script. So you’ll be able to see how it works and look at all the differences between the old and the new.
Now you have your new installation and have seen all the differences. So you want to know how you can use your 1.3 skin to the new 2.0 . You think , it’ll be easy… i can upgrade the old skin using the upgrade feature that i have found in the new release. Well… the upgrade feature work only to upgrade the Default skin. If you have another skin purchased somewhere or created by you, you cannot upgrade it. Or at least not yet. Maybe in the future….
The way i suggest is the following.
First create a new skin based on the default skin.
In the new articlems 2 installation go to Manage Skins — > Create New Skins
Put a name in the field and click the button. You’ll see something like this below:
Create Skin
Create new skin named BlueSky based on Deafault CREATE

After that go to Templates — > and select the new skin
At this point you must copy and past the code from each block from your 1.3 skin to the same block in the new 2.0 skin.

This will take a while and you must pay attention becouse the new code is different and you must not ovewrite all but only the layout part.

When you have completed, you can see if all the site with the new skin work fine. Then you must EXPORT the skin and save it to your PC. So now you can upgrade your articlems 1.3 to 2.0. Simply follow the instruction you have found in the folder. When you have your site upgraded to ams 2.0 you can upload your skin and install it.

I know, it sounds a lot of work to do. But if you want , we can do that for you for a small fee.
