If, however, you know the system a little, then few tips can help.

The following are some tips you must know in order to change, activate and edit the articlems template:

1) When you install a new template you must go to SETTINGS –> GLOBAL SETTINGS
here you can select the new template.

2) After selected the new template you must go to EDIT TEMPLATE and select the new template so that if you want to edit something in the blocks the changes will be saved in the template

3) When you are logged in as admin and go to your homepage, you see a menu bar on the top left.
To edit something click the link EDIT MODE
Passing over your mouse you can see some little picture. clicking the picture it’ll open a window containing the code/text etc.
But please be sure on what you do, or you’ll lose the template structure.

Before doing any changes EXPORT the template.
To do so go to TEMPLATES –> MANAGE SKINS
and click the link EXPORT on the right of your template (ie. 4ColPremiumRed2)
It’ll export the actual template into your server under skins/export folder. Save it on your computer.

This wi’ll help you in case of wrong changes made.

If you make something wrong and the template doesn’t work good, you can install it again.
To do so goto TEMPLATE –> Manage Skins.
On the right of your template you can see the link DELETE . Click it and confirm that you want to delete the template

Then with your FTP go to the server under the SKINS folder and delete the template folder.
Then upload again the template you have exported.
Go to TEMPLATE –> Manage Skins and INSTALL it.
Then go to SETTINGS –> GLOBAL SETTINGS and select the template you have just installed
Then go to TEMPLATE and select the template.

I hope that the above suggestion can help you all.

This is not recommended because the system does not allow you to view such a large number of items per page incurring in an error like this:

ArticleMS Error:

and you are no long able to view the MANAGE and REVIEW articles pages.

If this is the case you have 2 options:

1) You can uncomment the last line (47) in the settings file and change the 32M to 64M

2) If you can access your admin, under ARTICLES –> MANAGE –> choose SEARCH
here make a search by username (ie your username)
you’ll get athe result page with some or no articles in it. You can see at the top the filed with the numeber of articles it
must display. Change it back to 30.

Now you should be able to access the MANAGE and REVIEW articles pages.

Remember that if you want avoid this problem, never change the number of articles and or username to display in the admin page, to more than 30/50

In order to get the most out from our articles we must have keywords and description for every page.

You can start creating a new block called for istance ” MetaTags” and set it as Universal.

Then follow the instruction that you can read HERE

After creating the block you must add some pieces of code in the various templates

HOMEPAGE Template php part add: $this->ishome = 1;

Category Template php part add: $this->iscategory = 1;

Article Template php part add: $this->isarticle = 1;

Custom Page Template php part add: $this->ispage = 1;

latest Template php part add: $this->islatest = 1;

In the last step you must add in the HEADER template the following code between the tags head /head

{$Blocks->Meta_Includes} (or whatever name you called the block)

I have had the same problem the first time i have upgraded one site. So after some test i have understood that the best way  to upgrade the script is to passing through the articlems 2.0 version. I don’t know why but i have found this as the best for me.

So here below you can read what i do:

The first thing is to edit the file settings.php.txt of the version you are upgrading.

Step 1 -  i make a db backup (this is crucial)

Step 2 – i create in the root/folder where is articlems 1.3, a folder called OLD

Step 3 – i move all the files and folder from the articlems 1.3 to the folder called OLD

Step 4 -  i upload the articlems 2.0

Step 4/bis – i edit the file settings.php.txt and rename it to settings.php

Step 5 – I launch the sitename/(eventual foldername/)install/upgrade.php

Step 6 – After the upgrade has been completedi go to admin –> template –> manage skins and i upgrade also the default skin

Step 7 – i repeat the above steps from 1 to 3 – in the step 4 i upload the ams 2.2.2 and then the steps 4/bis, 5 and 6

EDITED – Repeat the same  if you want to upgrade to the latest version 2.3

Keep in mind that if you have created/installed a different skin/template in your articlems 1.3 you’ll loose it becouse the upgrading process doesn’t upgrade other skins/templates. It’ll only upgrade the default one.

I have never had problems using this system, so it should work for you too.

There is another way to upgrade your articlems 1.3 to articlems 2.2.2 and it’ll be for sure more easy, secure and less time consuming.

This version has some new features :

1) It can be used in 2 different way
- As the usual Article Directory
- As a Blog (like wordpress)
2) It can now upgraded directly from the admin. This is the most important feature becouse it’ll avoid any truble while upgrading
3) The template system has been improved but in this case you must know that if you have created a template or purchased a premium template, you must not upgrade it from the admin.
This becouse the upgrading will not copy all the code that you have in the HTML header.
So i suggest, before upgrading to the new 2.2.2 version copy all the code that you have in the header in a notepad. ( Of course make first a full backup )
After the upgrade to the new 2.2.2 version go to Templates – Manage skins – and click the link UPGRADE
Then goto Templates – Edit Template – MAIN and add in the HTML part the code you have from the notepad.
